• Teacher Assistant Accreditation Program

    The PPSD Teacher Assistant Training Program provides training for anyone interested in being employed as a full-time teacher assistant in PPSD. Topics are consistent with state standards and include: roles and responsibilities of the teacher assistant, special education, policies and procedures, confidentiality, cultural sensitivity, effective communication, conflict resolution, instructional support, data collection, technology, behavior management, social emotional learning, CPI training, health and safety, and mandatory reporting.

    Participants will be awarded a certificate recognized by RIDE upon successful completion of all classes, assignments, field experience, and exams.

    The first cohort will consist of a maximum of 25 participants. We will only be accepting applicants who are interested in becoming a TA in PPSD in a high need area (Special Education or Pre-K).

  • COST

    $275, including a $10 non-refundable registration fee.
    With a commitment to 1 year at PPSD, the cost is $137.50 per candidate (50% off) including the $10 non-refundable registration fee. Note that if the 1-year commitment is not upheld, the candidate will be charged the remaining cost of $137.50 to complete the program's full cost. 

    SCHEDULE

    Location: PPSD PD Tech Room, 797 Westminster St., Providence, RI
    Schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 5:00-7:30 PM
    Dates: February 28, 29, March 5, 6, 7
    The program will consist of 5 classes that take place over a 2-week period with 3 additional hours of in-class observation.

    APPLICATION PROCESS

    PPSD is looking for candidates who are interested in filling hard-to-fill TA positions in Providence in Special Education (Autism, Exceptional Child Services, Behavior Disorder, 1:1) and Pre-K. Applicants who are accepted into the TA Accreditation program will be placed in a PPSD school and begin working as a TA as soon as possible while completing their certification.

    • Associate Degree -or- 48 College Credits -or- a passing score of 461 on the  Test
