HOW TO KNOW YOUR POROSITY.

Porosity is the ability of your hair to absorb and  hold moisture.
Porosity is determined by the structure of your cuticle (outer layer of your hair).

There are three kinds of hair porosity which are:
* Low hair porosity
TRAITS
-  It has a tightly bound cuticle layer making it difficult for moisture to penetrate and also difficult for it to escape when it's in your hair.
-  Products sits on your hair.
-  Does not absorb hair color or treatments easily.
-  Water beads up on hair.

*Medium/normal hair porosity
TRAITS
-  Absorbs and retains the perfect amount of moisture
- It looks shiny and healthy.

* High hair porosity
TRAITS
- It has gaps and holes in the cuticle allowing moisture to easily pass in and out of the hair.
-  Absorbs too much moisture but unable to retain it.
-  Tangles easily because the cuticles get got on each other.
-  Hair dries quickly.
-  Tends to be frizzy.

HOW TO DETERMINE YOUR HAIR POROSITY.
1. FLOAT TEST: take some strands of hair from your brush/comb (use clean hair because hair products can alter your results) and drop in a class of water.  Let it sit from 2-10 minutes. If your hair floats after the time is up,  you have low porosity. If it floats in the middle of the glass, you have medium porosity. And if it sinks you have high porosity.

2. THE SLIP AND SLIDE TEST: take a strand of hair and slide your fingers up  towards your scalp.  If you feel small bumps along the way, you have high porosity. If the shade is smooth you have low porosity hair and if it feels normal you have normal/medium porosity.

3.  THE SPRAY BOTTLE TEST: take a small section of your  hair then spray the water in the bottle to the hair section and watch closely, if water beads up you have low porosity hair, if the water is absorbed quickly you have high porosity and if you notice the water sits on your hair for a couple of minutes before absorbing in,  you have medium/normal hair porosity.

CARE FOR EACH POROSITY.
*LOW POROSITY
-  use protein free daily conditioner with humectants (products that attracts moisture).
-  use moisture rich products such as jojoba oil, shea butter, coconut oil and mineral oil.
-  use lighter products
-  Washing with clay or ACV is a good way to remove product build up.

*MEDIUM/NORMAL POROSITY
- Avoid protein in daily regimen
- Deep condition periodically with a product that contain protein.

*HIGH POROSITY
- Products that doesn't contain humectants should be used.
-  Heavy creams are good for this hair.
- Don't forget to seal in moisture using oils such as avocado after moisturizing.

Notice don't ever apply oil on a dry hair,  apply moisture first before sealing in the moisture with the oil but if you do otherwise you seal in dryness thereby leading to breakage!
